Quantity Surveyor

Job description
Responsible for assisting the Senior Commercial and Commercial Manager in all Reach Active Group commercial matters to ensure protection of the Group’s financial and contractual interests from the conception of a project within the relevant business sector through to final completion in line with commercial policy and defined procedures.

Key function is to adequately manage costs on Group building and construction sites, in a variety of contexts: building, telecommunication, electrical installation and commercial projects, infrastructure projects (e.g. highways), or industrial sites.

Professionally advise, and work effectively with, the Management Teams responsible for the project(s), to achieve a product which will surpass the Client’s expectations, but will minimise the risk to the Group and will maximise the profit making opportunities.

Prime Responsibilities:
1) To assist the Commercial Manager’s in co-ordinating and supporting the relevant sectors of the Group’s business.

2) Offer strategic guidance to projects, including prioritising spending, outsourcing to subcontractors, etc

3) Prepare budgets and estimates as directed by the Commercial Manager’s

4) Advise procurement department on materials and construction

5) Participate in procurement process

6) Analyse outcomes and write detailed reports for inclusion in periodic project reports

7) Accurately value completed work  on site and organise payments

8) Where required deal with planning issues and building regulations

9) Work in conjunction with other project professionals to ensure cost control on sites

10) Act for the Group in  cases of disputes, sometimes as expert witnesses in court

11) Ensure that they have a clear understanding and adhere to building legislation, health and safety law and contract law.

12) Assist with any financial or quality audits carried out.

13) Work to any instruction given by the Commercial Manager’s.

PICW OHL Projects - Ireland

Summary Description:
The PICW will perform duties covered within his voltage level approvals from LV to 400KV.He will be required to climb wooden poles and towers using the necessary safety equipment supplied by ReachActive. Streetworks Coordinator - London

Part of Team responsible for provision of support to various groups within Reach Active in management of street works administration.

Reach Active must carry out excavations in the public highway it is essential that the relevant street authority are kept informed of the work on the highway. Failure to meet the requirements within the regulations leads to fines and charges.

  • Ensure high standards of customer service
  • Manage customer relationships with external stakeholders, especially Street Authorities.
  • Handle incoming communications from street authorities, ensure response from relevant contact
  • Update several different database records as required.
  • Where necessary provide support to the project team in relation to customer queries, defect management and reporting.
  • Where required manage fines or charges received by Reach Active in relation to street works. Carry out detailed investigation where appropriate, discussing issues with contractors, other departments and street authorities.
  • Manage relationships with internal stakeholders, and contractors to ensure street works processes operate effectively and efficiently.
  • Identify any trends developing which need to be communicated to business unit/ contractors to help reduce risk of failure in meeting street works requirements. Monitor changing requirements/emphasis of authorities and circulated to line manager/business areas.
  • Where required, provide reporting to line manager or business area where there is specific requirement.
    There is considerable amount of liaison with job owners, contractors and directly with street authority representatives, liaison is also required with managers in other departments within the business.

Electrician - Ireland

1. SUMMARY DESCRIPTION
Key tasks include, but are not limited to, the following:
• Provision and management of design and engineering services for overhead lines including undertaking design studies, feasibility studies, and fault investigations (primarily on overhead line insulators (glass and composite).
• Communicating and reporting to client on product contract requirements, work programme, and testing/supply progress
• Regular liaising with client and team leader monitoring work programmes, & milestones
• Specifying materials for transmission and distribution overhead lines, including product design parameters, material properties, outlining testing to national and international standards
• Managing and providing support on specifying insulator designs in substations to ESBI Substations Design Standards
• Preparation of tender enquiry documentation
• Assessing suppliers tendering documentation, reviewing product designs, drawings, and test reports
• Provide a leading role in Factory Quality Inspections (to ISO 9001).
• Testing materials, including coordinating testing schedules with supplier(s), and assessing test parameters results
• Material test and fault investigations, including initial assessment reporting, standards research, interfacing with suppliers, project designers
• Supporting project teams in relation to overhead line material and design issues
• Taking on material/technology specialisation role to ensure design department and client are aware of new developments, design alternatives, training, and perform design/material risk assessments in conjunction with suppliers and asset owner

NECESSARY EXPERIENCE/TRAINING/ KNOWLEDGE:

-Level 8 or 9 in Electrical and/or Mechanical Engineering
-Minimum Electrical or Mechanical Engineering experience of 5 years
-Minimum Electrical Experience of 3 years
-Detailed knowledge and experience of overhead lines materials and international specifications
-Full Drivers licence and access to a car is essential.

Chartered Status in a recognised professional engineering institution is preferable and will be an advantage

Skills and experience

PROJECT MANAGER

The post holder is responsible for delivering the project’s high level objectives and for ensuring that each Project Manager and project team deliver to the project remit within budget and to a programme as agreed with the Reach Active Board and clients.

The post holder will interface internally through his/her direct report team and externally with the client to ensure project awareness is communicated widely. The post holder through personal experience will ensure contracts for purchase of equipment, installation, test and commissioning puts minimum risk to the projects.

Principle interfaces are:

  • Client Project Manager for projects
  • The Client Board
  • External standards and regulatory organisations
  • Project subcontractors

Experience/Training/Knowledge

Ideally educated to tertiary level with a proven record within the Civils Engineering arena. The post holder should have at least 5 years experience in the application of principles and processes required to manage a diverse portfolio of projects; working knowledge of all safety civils BS codes; developed interpersonal and communication skills and able to manage project team members and in working closely with senior managers from a client organisation.

Prime Responsibilities

  1. Manage the project team to implement the programme agreed with the clients project manager.
  2. Be able to set-out jobs as required
  3. Define a clear set of objectives and accountabilities for all members of the project team.
  4. Produce timely progress reports as required by the client
